Dr Gareth Davies MBChB, FACRRM, BSc

Dr Gareth Davies is a Rural Generalist and Fellow of the Australian College of Rural and Remote Medicine, whose life is defined by tireless service and deep community care. Since graduating in 1995 and relocating from New Zealand to Hervey Bay in 2008, he has become a pillar of rural healthcare. Dr Davies works full-time in general practice, while also working in the Emergency Department—bringing critical care expertise to the frontline. He is one of only four doctors in the region who provide hospice services, and he also visits nursing home residents, ensuring continuity and compassion for those most in need.

Professional Experience: Dr. Davies brings over 20 years of extensive medical experience to our practice. For the past 11 years, he has been working full-time with Queensland Health in the Emergency Department, where he has honed his expertise in acute and emergency care. He regularly works in both the Maryborough and Hervey Bay Emergency Departments giving back to his community.

Special Interests:

  • Skin Cancer Medicine: Dr. Davies has completed a certificate in skin cancer medicine, enabling him to provide advanced diagnostics and treatments for skin cancer.
  • Musculoskeletal Medicine: He has a special interest in musculoskeletal medicine, focusing on the diagnosis and management of conditions affecting the muscles, bones, and joints.

Collaborative Practice: In addition to his emergency department responsibilities, Dr. Davies regularly assists private surgeons at St. Stephen’s Hospital, contributing his skills to a variety of surgical procedures and patient care initiatives. He also attends to nursing home patients and serves as a hospice doctor, providing compassionate end-of-life care.

Personal Life: Outside of his professional commitments, Dr. Davies is also a devoted father to three sons—two pursuing careers in medicine—and a spirited 11-year-old daughter with a love for dance. When he’s not working, you’ll find him spending time with his wife and family, mountain biking or out on the water, recharging with the same energy and joy he brings to his patients.
