Out‑of‑Pocket Costs for Your Procedure
It is important to be aware that Surgical procedures now involve out‑of‑pocket fees.
This flyer explains what to expect so you can feel informed and prepared.
What Are Out‑of‑Pocket Fees?
Out‑of‑pocket fees (also known as gap fees) are the portion of your surgical costs not covered by Medicare. These fees apply to surgical procedures & follow‑up care.
Doctors set their own fees based on:
- The complexity and time required for your procedure
- Training, expertise, and professional costs
Your doctor will always aim to provide high‑quality care whilst being transparent about costs.
Consumables Fees
Surgical procedures require the use of consumable items. These are single‑use medical products essential for your treatment and may include items such as dressings, sutures, disposable instruments, or other sterile equipment.
Because these items are not covered by Medicare, a consumables fee will be applied in addition to the Doctors private fee. The cost of consumables varies depending on what is required for your specific procedure.
